March 12 - Morning
“Now the people of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him,
'You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea about you and me. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions, but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear. I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly. So on that day Moses swore to me,
'The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’ ”
- Joshua 14:6-9 |

Caleb Rewarded Forty Years Later at the age of 80 |
|
|
After the conquest of the land from the south to the north it was time to divide the land between the tribes. The receiving of a portion of the land as an inheritance begins with the tribe of Judah which was led by Caleb. Along with Joshua, Caleb was one of the two faithful spies who returned to Moses at Kadesh Barnea forty years earlier with a positive report when he said Israel could take the land from the Canaanites. Caleb was forty years old at that time. Now at the age of 80 he had just finished defeating the Canaanites throughout the Promised Land and was ready to receive what Moses and the Lord had promised him.
Because of Caleb’s bold confidence in the promises of God, the Lord preserved him and allowed him to participate in and see the conquering of the Promised Land. Now Caleb and his tribe will receive the first and greatest share of the land described in great detail in Joshua 15:21-62. Caleb reminds Joshua that he brought Moses “back a report according to my convictions,” or literally “a word as was with my heart.” Caleb’s words provided faith for the people of God, while the words of the other spies “made the hearts of the people melt in fear.” God would now reward Caleb for his faithful attitude, words and actions by giving him the very land he had stood on in Hebron. The account of Caleb being rewarded his land is recorded three times in scripture with emphases on different aspects each time (Joshua 14:6-15; 15:13-19; Judges 1:12-15) |

"The church is in trouble—that's what they say anyways. The problem is most of what they call the church is not the church, and the church is not quite as in trouble as everybody thinks. As a matter of fact, the church today is absolutely beautiful—she's glorious, she's humble, she's broken, and she's confessing her sin. The problem is what everybody's calling the church today isn't the church. Basically, by and large, what's called the church today is nothing more than a bunch of unconverted church people with unconverted pastors."
