"The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt."
- Deuteronomy 7:7-8 |

As Great as the Promise |
|
|
Israel is told that God did not select them because of their greatness, but because of the Lord’s faithfulness to his oath. The Lord had promised Abraham that he would become a great nation. The reason for all these amazing events leading up to the fantastic fulfillment of receiving the Promised Land was because the Lord took an oath to do this very thing.
The power of Israel was the mighty Lord God, but the source of his performance was his Word. The Lord had spoken; the Lord had made a promise; the Lord had taken an oath. Now, that Word was moving in history. The deliverance of Israel from Egypt was just like the creation of the universe. God spoke and the universe came into existence. Likewise, God had spoken to Abraham, and that promise had multiplied into a large nation ready to conquer the land promised to Abraham.
Israel’s opportunities come from the Word of God and the promises he has made. Their power comes from the Lord who’s Word has been spoken. |
