February 16 - Morning
"“They gave Moses this account:
‘We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.”
Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said,
‘We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.’
But the men who had gone up with him said,
‘We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.’”

Miracles Did Not Produce Faith |
|
|
So far in the book of Numbers and in the wilderness experience the people’s lack of faith and their negative, uncooperative attitude have been confronted by the Lord, but never with a long lasting consequence. This time, though, the murmuring and doubt among the Israelites will result in an alteration in the Lord’s plan for this generation and their impact in history. This time their lack of faith will leave a mark on the life of an entire generation.
The people's failure to learn God's nature and his truth inorder to have the faith to obey will result in their failure to be allowed to see, enter and live in the Promised Land. After visually seeing the ten plagues strike Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea and a year worth of other manifestations by God which included his appearing on Mount Sinai, his glory in the Tabernacle, the pillar of cloud/fire, daily manna and much more, the Israelites do not have enough faith to believe God. So, it is clear that miracles do not produce faith. People must hear and understand the Word of God.
Because the people lacked faith, they lack the ability to see the potential. They are now destined by God to live the rest of their lives short of the Promised Land, in the wilderness. |

" "The significance and joy in my science comes in those occasional moments of discovering something new and saying to myself, 'So that's how God did it.' My goal is to understand a little corner of God's plan."

In the 900’s the church of Europe was greatly divided by completion. They fought and deceived for land using violence. In this climate in 909 the Duke of Aquitaine set up a monastery at Cluny that would:
1. Be independent of the church
2. Be protected by the pope
3. Follow rules laid out by Benedict in 500 AD: poverty, chastity and obedience
This monetary was successful and grew in size, outreach and power. So, while the church lied, indulged in worldly sin and fought for power and land, the vision of the Clun monetary spread to France, Italy and Germany. Monasteries already in existence came to Cluny for help. By 1100 AD Cluny had built the largest church in the West and led 2,000 monasteries. The monastery movement reformed the church and soon monks from Cluny were becoming bishops , popes and transforming the church and society. |
