June 14 - Morning
"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord,
'He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.'...
...'Because he loves me,'
says the Lord,
'I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.' "
- Psalms 91:1-2, 14-16 |

The Protection of the Almighty and the Deliverance of the Most High |
|

Psalm 91 is a rehearsal of the benefits a man receives when trusting God. Besides all the other benefits (91:3-13), the Lord declares that he himself (91:14-16) will protect the one who:
- acknowledges his name
- calls on him in times of trouble.
The psalmist begins this psalm identifying the Lord by two significant titles:
- The Most High – stressing the Lord’s power and his sovereign rule of earth.
- The Almighty – is Hebrew sadday which speaks of God as the all sufficient provider who is majestic in power like the mountains.
It appears that the Lord inserted an oracle of confirmation at the end of this psalm through one of the priests, Levites or prophets. The Lord promises:
- To rescue
- To protect
- To answer
- To be with
- To deliver
- To honor
- To satisfy with long life
- To show salvation

"God's viewpoint is sometimes different from ours - so different that we could not even guess at it unless He had given us a Book which tells us such things....In the Bible I learn that God values us not for
our strenght or our brains
but simply because
He has made us."

"Our task is, with the aid of divine piety, to defend the holy Church of Christ with arms...Your task, most holy father, is to lift up your hands to God, like Moses, so as to aid our troops." |
