The Bread of the presence was baked and placed before the Lord in the holy place in the tabernacle. After its symbolic service this bread was given to the priest to eat.
Abhimelech gives the bread to David because human need comes before ceremonial law.

Doeg the Edomite is detained before the Lord at the tabernacle was a proselyte and had some ceremonial business at the tabernacle. He was Saul’s head shepherd.

1) To kill a crazy man meant to release his demon which then might come on the killer
2) Crazy people where often considered to have influence in the spiritual realm and so where believed to have the favor of the gods.
