Murder/Anger

“Do not murder.

“Anyone who murders will be subject to judgment”

Anyone who is angry will be subject to judgment.

Go to the person that is angry at you when you have offended them and make it right.

Overstated? Will Sanhedrin judge you for calling someone a fool? God will. Are you going to walk 80 miles back to Galilee to make things right?

Eph. 4:26

Mt. 21:12

Adultery/Lust

“Do not commit adultery.”

Looking at a  woman lustfully is committing adultery in your heart.

Get rid of opportunity to commit mental adultery (eye) and physical adultery (hand)

Overstated? maybe you could control your thoughts, eyes and hand instead of cutting them off?

Divorce/Marriage

“Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.”

Adultery causes divorce. Divorce causes adultery.

Lk.16:18

Oaths/Truthfulness

“Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.”

Your word is your oath. A simple “yes” or “no.” The things you swear by have no impact on you and you have no influence on them.

Be truthful and let your words speak your intent. You do not need to create levels of truth like “crossing your heart and hope to die,”, etc.

Justice/Revenge

“Eye for an eye, and tooth for tooth.”

Do not resist. Do not seek revenge.

Actively engage in an attempt to resolve the conflict.

Seek to accommodate. Try to give people what they ask. Cooperate, don’t keep score.

Overstated? If someone hits you, let them hit you again. If someone sues you, just give them more than they sue you for.

Love/Respect

“Love your neighbor and hate your enemy

Love your enemies.

Pray for your enemies.

God is good to those who are not good to him. God is the source and origin of love.

Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect!

·        Be different than the world.

·        Be like God.
