"As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could
not shake it, because it was well built."
- Luke 6:47-48

Hearing Jesus’ words and not applying them to life is like putting a band-aid on a tumor without
doing surgery. Not allowing the Word of God to penetrate your lifestyle is as productive as painting
a broken down car. Instead, the change is in replacing worn out parts and repairing mechanical problems. Jesus chose to illustrate his point by comparing hearing the Truth, but not doing the
Truth to building a nice house on a sinking, shifting foundation. A nice house needs to be built
on a solid foundation set on footings deep below the frost line.
The good material used to build the nice house is the Word of God. The foundation is our
application of the Word. The sinking, shifting sand represents the failure to apply the Truth to
your thinking, your actions, or your life.
There is no power in knowing what to do during a storm if you do not use that knowledge to
take action. Likewise, the nice house on the sand is defenseless against the storm unless it is anchored to a solid, secure foundation. The Words of Jesus are the good building material that
we need to direct our life, but our application of those truths are the solid foundation that secures
us in this world. |

loses the eternal blessings,
he does so with his

Koinonia (Gr) - Fellowship (Eng) - Koinonia captures the concept of partnership,
a close relationship, fellowship in a common interest that keeps people together. Greeks
used the word koinonia to refer to a business partnership, marriage or association with
a common project. Christian fellowship is important for our individual growth and production.
Koinonia is a source of empowerment that cannot be replaced with anything else.
The things that create koinonia among Christians are our connection in doctrine,
thinking, lifestyle, desires and purpose. |

Paul was in Corinth during
the fall of 50 AD. Acts 18 refers to Paul's time in
Corinth and to Gallio, a proconsul in ancient Greece. Gallio is mentinoed in the writings of Tacitus 56-117 AD), Pliny (61-112 AD) and his name is found in a limestone inscription in Delphi from
52 AD. (Image here) |

Do I understand that God's word provides strength in the storm as often as it provides
wisdom to avoid the storm? I will not only look for God's word to lead me away from trouble,
but will also look for his word to give me strength in the midst of trouble. |
