The political prophets and professional priests told Micah,
"Do not prophesy about these things that disgrace us by exposing our corrupt practices. Do not keep saying judgment will come to us because of our insincere preaching/prophesying/teaching.”
Micah responds to the false prophets who are telling him to stop making them look bad
by asking them,
“Do you think God will listen to you? Do you think that just because the majority of the people are siding with the false prophets God is going to give up? ‘Does the Spirit of the Lord do such things’ like adjust to the popular opinion or give up (‘impatient,’ 'angry' or ‘become too short’) because he doesn’t have public support?”
God's word blesses those who are upright, not those who become like a corrupt society.
Micah then says that these people would love a lying and deceiving prophet who predicted
that God would bless them with extravagant prosperity to meet their sensual desires. They
|
would love a prophet who said, “God is going to provide you with plenty of wine and beer.”
"That would be just the prophet for this people!" - Micah 2:11
Jeremiah said the same thing concerning the people’s willingness to following deceptive
preachers when he said:
“A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land:
The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority,
and MY PEOPLE LOVE IT THIS WAY!” – Jeremiah 5:30-31
"But what will you do in the end?" - Jeremiah 5:31
