November 9 - Morning
"“You show that you are a letter from Christ,
the result of our ministry, written not with ink
but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets
of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Such confidence we have through Christ before God.
Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes
from God. He has made us competent as ministers
of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit;
for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
- Second Corinthians 3:3-6 |

Letters on Our Hearts, Not on Stone! |

The transformation in the Corinthian’s lives was the result of Paul’s ministry that presented to them the good news. The message that Paul taught them was not rules inscribed on stone, but words written on their hearts by the Spirit of God.
Paul says he is very confident that the changes in the lives of the Corinthians will confirm his ministry as being legitimate, but this boldness is not confidence in himself, but confidence in the message he teaches that is itself “from God.” Paul gives credit to the message of the new covenant for the formation of the Corinthian’s church and the transformation of the believers in Corinth. This new covenant is not an external message on stone, but a message that transforms the very spirit and
soul of the man who hears and believes it. It is not the presentation or the presenter that makes the difference, but it is the message itself.
Anything other than the message of the new covenant will bring death, because everything other than the message of the new covenant is external letters, words or directions. The message of the new covenant is letters, words, and directions that penetrate the soul of man by the Spirit of God and bring life. |
