May 1 - Morning
"The king contributed from his own possessions for the morning and evening burnt offerings …He ordered the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due the priests and Levites so they could devote themselves to the Law of the Lord…The people of Israel and Judah who lived in the towns of Judah also brought a tithe of their herds and flocks and a tithe of the holy things dedicated to the Lord their God, and they piled them in heaps. They began doing this in the third month and finished in the seventh month. When Hezekiah and his officials came and saw the heaps, they praised the Lord and blessed his people Israel. Hezekiah asked the priests and Levites about the heaps; and Azariah the chief priest, from the family of Zadok, answered,
‘Since the people began to bring their contributions to the temple of the Lord, we have had enough to eat and plenty to spare, because the Lord has blessed his people, and this great amount is left over.’
Hezekiah gave orders to prepare storerooms in the temple of the Lord, and this was done."
- Second Chronicles 31:3-4; 6-12 |

Hezekiah Instructs the People and Priests in Worship |
|
|
King Hezekiah has cleansed the land of pagan idol worship, reestablished the temple worship and is now attempting to teach the people of Judah and the people of northern Israel how to properly worship the Lord. Hezekiah begins by training the priests and Levites. (2 Chronicles 31:1-2)
Hezekiah brought sacrifices from his own possessions for the required burnt offerings to reengage temple worship. After Hezekiah had led by example he required the people to bring their required portions to the House of the Lord as prescribed by the Law of Moses, the government covenant the nation of Israel had entered into with the Lord at Mount Sinai.
The people brought their offerings and piled them into heaps in Jerusalem because the response in Judah was overwhelming. The bringing of the harvest went on like this for four months – the third month began grain harvest (May-June) and the seventh month was the grape and fig harvest (Sept-Oct).
The priests were blessed with provisions and the people’s land was blessed according to the covenant agreement with the Lord. Hezekiah began to build storerooms in the temple precincts to accommodate the provisions that would be used by the priest through the year until the next harvest. |

Palestinians get their name from the Philistines. The name of the land, Palestine, comes from palaistine, the Greek word for Philistine. The Romans renamed the land of Israel in 135 AD after the ancient enemies of Israel who had been destroyed or scattered into oblivion by Nebuchadnezzar in the
500’s BC. |

Tsaba (Hb) – Host (Eng) – means “host,” “military,” “service,” “war,” “army,” “forced labor,” “conflict.” Tsaba refers to a group assembled for any of the above purposes. There could be
a tsaba of men assembled for labor, conflict or war. Or, tsaba is used to refer to angels
assembled for the same things: service, military conflict (Dan.10:1), etc. |

According to Judges 1:27 the tribe of Manasseh did not drive the Canaanites out of the city of Taanach which was an important city on the south edge of the Megiddo Valley. But, after the days of King David the city of Taanach had been taken and it was being used by Solomon as one of the cities responsible for collecting and providing supplies to the royal budget in 1 Kings 4:12. Excavation shows that Taanach was an inhabited and important city in the days of Abraham. Excavation from the time of Solomon reveal rows of aligned stone posts with holes used for tying horse reigns similar to what is seen at Megiddo. It is assumed that Taanach was used as one of Solomon’s chariot cities in the Megiddo Valley. |

Do I bring to God his share of my offerings and gifts?
I will share the blessings and provisions the Lord has given me with others.
