| Approaching the Gates of the Upper City of Arad |
In the upper city of Arad is an Israelite Temple, or High Place, of worship. These were a violation of the Law of God.
This picture is taken from the outer court with the altar being the square formation to the right. There is a stone slab on top. This had been covered with dirt around 701 BC during Hezekiah's reform.

The little opening in the wall behind the altar leads into a long room which would be the holy place with the lamp stand. The Most Holy Place is up the four steps into the little room in the back. |
| This is the altar that was used around 700 BC |
This is a picture of the Holy of Holies. Instead of one incense altar infront of the Most Holy Place there are two.
The two stones in the back are two deity stones. One is for Yahweh and the other is for his wife, Asherah (Astoroth). Pagan religion and thinking had crept into the true worship of Jehovah. |
| You can see the short room in front of the Holy of Holies here. This room would have been the Holy Place. It was longer to the left and the right. |

From the upper city of Arad you can see a much older lower city.
Below are photos of this lower city. This part of the city dates back to 2800 BC. |
| These streets from 2800 BC remain visible yet today. |

| This wall leads up towards the city from 600-800 BC |
| Notice the base of a half cicular tower on the left side of the wall across from the treee. Towers like this were built through out this wall. |
| Here is one of the semi-circular towers from almost 5,000 years ago. This type of wall construction with attached towers was common at ths time. |
